Tallow Cosmetics and its place in the world

Tallow Cosmetics and its place in the world

Let's pause for a moment to remember where our resources come from and what sustainable skincare truly means. Because if we want to be healthy, we must care for our environment. In other words, we must take responsibility.

The following points form the basis for achieving low consumption values combined with excellent long-term performance.

Regenerative and organic agriculture

Beautiful things don't demand attention; they simply shine. The way to respect biodiversity, our soil, its nutrients, and the environment is to return to the forms of agriculture and methods used by previous generations. There was a timeless connection with the environment. Crops were rotated across different areas, creating a healthy and efficient cycle. This kept the soil rich in biodiversity and nutrients, and it fed animals.

Soil needs a variety of nutrients and bacteria to thrive. Industrialization has changed the way agriculture is handled. With so many plantations, greenhouses, pesticides, refineries, and mass production, there's little respect for the environment, yet it does receive the familiar, flashy labels like cruelty-free, plant-based, vegan, and so on.

Regenerative agriculture is different and essential for sustainable skincare. It values the long-term health of the soil and land over mass production. It reconnects us with the earth in a way that is naturally meant to be. It helps us understand how our ecosystem functions. It brings value, honor, and intention back to the ingredients we source.

Nature must take its course in order to produce:

  • No or minimal tillage to prevent erosion and improve soil health
  • Crop rotation and consideration of cover
  • More diversity in plants and crops
  • Animal integration, managed grazing and grazing
  • Using compost instead of artificial fertilizer

Result:

  • Improving soil health to pass on to the next generation
  • A balanced biodiversity and improvement of the ecosystem as a whole
  • Increased carbon storage in the soil
  • Humane treatment of livestock and farm workers
  • Increased purity and properties of ingredients

This is how we support regenerative agriculture and sustainability through our purchasing:

  • We choose Tallow, where the animals are raised humanely: in nature. Animal-based Tallow follows a nose-to-tail principle, where every part of the animal is given a purpose in regenerative and ethical farming.
  • Our essential oils come from small-scale organic farms.
  • Our pure and organic jojoba, beeswax, and olive oil are sourced from a sustainable supplier. We always use premium quality, which means they are also free of chemical extracts or solvents that could harm the environment.
  • Our arrowroot powder, bentonite clay, and coco coir are organic and come from a 100% solar-powered farm, saving us energy and fuel.

Planting trees

The demand for vegetable oils, such as canola, sunflower, and palm oil, is growing enormously worldwide. These crops are among the most environmentally destructive in the world: More land is used for the cultivation and plantations of vegetable oil crops than for all grass-fed cattle, fruits, and vegetables.

Trees are invaluable. They release oxygen, create habitats for many plant and animal species, protect the soil, and improve water quality.

Tallow Cosmetics partners with Tree-nation, an organization dedicated to restoring forests by employing local villagers to plant millions of trees each year. These trees are planted in the Amazon rainforest, Africa, Asia, or South America.

Sustainability & packaging: a balanced concept.

Just as we consciously handle all our formulas, we also consciously handle the final step: packaging. Tallow Cosmetics strives to source environmentally friendly materials. The jars are made of sustainable glass, and the use of plastic is kept to a minimum. All cardboard materials are recyclable. In short, all materials used are easily recyclable, and we adhere to the following aspects for sustainability:

  • Minimal plastic
  • Recyclable glass packaging
  • Plastic-free shipping

If we take good care of nature, nature will take good care of us.

Together we make a positive change for our planet and our health at the same time.
